1. Oil seals prevent internal system fluids from leaking and keep external contamination from entering the system. It is used to prevent oil leakage past a certain area.
2. An O-ring, also known as a packing, or a toric joint, is a mechanical gasket in the shape of a torus; it is a loop of elastomer with a round cross-section, designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface. The O-ring may be used in static applications or in dynamic applications where there is relative motion between the parts and the O-ring. It is one of the most common seals used in machine design because they are inexpensive, easy to make, reliable, and have simple mounting requirements. They can seal tens of megapascals (thousands of psi) of pressure.
3. Quadrings - A wide range of elastomer materials for both standard and special applications allows practically all liquid and gaseous media to be sealed. Quad-Ring Seals are vulcanized as a continuous ring. They are characterized by their annular form with a four lipped profile. Their dimensions are specified with the inside diameter and the cross-section.
4. Mono/Wiper Seals - A wiper seal is an axial seal that creates a seal while allowing a reciprocating shaft to pass through the seal's inner bore. Wiper seals are often used for fluid containment and to prevent dirt from entering a reciprocating shaft mechanism. Wiper seals are typically used on hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, as well as telescopic suspension forks for motorcycles and bicycles.
5. A mechanical seal is a device that helps join systems or mechanisms together by preventing leakage (e.g. in a plumbing system), containing pressure, or excluding contamination. The effectiveness of a seal is dependent on adhesion in the case of sealants and compression in the case of gaskets.
6. A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression. Gaskets allow "less-than-perfect" mating surfaces on machine parts where they can fill irregularities. Gaskets are commonly produced by cutting from sheet materials.
7. Lock ring – washer that prevents a nut from loosening. It is a seal consisting of a flat disk placed to prevent leakage.
8. A bushing or rubber bushing is a type of vibration isolator. It provides an interface between two parts, damping the energy transmitted through the bushing.
